Whiplash & neck pain after a traffic accident

After a collision or other traffic accident, neck symptoms can occur following a sudden acceleration–deceleration movement of the head and neck. When symptoms develop after this type of trauma, physiotherapy often uses the term Whiplash Associated Disorder (WAD).

Who may this be suitable for?

For people with neck pain, stiffness, reduced movement or uncertainty with movement after a traffic accident, once serious acute injuries have been medically excluded when needed.

What do we do during the session?

We discuss the accident, symptoms, daily activities and what you want to return to. Movement is then built up gradually with suitable exercises for mobility, control, strength and daily loading. The approach is adjusted to your response and what is achievable for you.

What is the goal?

The aim is to rebuild daily movement and activities safely and gradually, increase confidence in movement and avoid unnecessary avoidance of activity.

Good to know

If you have new, severe or rapidly worsening symptoms after a recent accident, neurological problems, or concern about a serious injury, seek medical assessment first through your GP or urgent care.
